6/8 Coach Update
Lancer Family,
Please read through for this week's updates.
Yesterday: WOW! I truly cannot say enough about how wonderful Lancer swimmers and families are! We got through our first meet of the season incredibly well, even with the weather delay. I know that it is likely that it felt overwhelming, especially for our new families, but I really appreciate everyone's help and patience! It also will get easier, I promise. Swimmers did a wonderful job checking in before the meet and learning how to adjust to a slightly different clerk of course. So many kids had their events written on their arms and were ready to go! We did have a little difficulty with people reporting to clerk of course on time for races, so parents, please be diligent in helping your child listen for the calls and reporting right away.
The meet ended with a TIE - quite a rarity in swim! WAY TO GO LANCERS for making the meet close.
Supervision During Practice and Meets: Many of you for the first time this weekend saw how busy and sometimes chaotic swim meets can be due to the large amount of people. Practices can also be that way at times as we have age groups coming and going. Therefore, we are just asking for our team to all work together to be diligent in supervising on the pool deck during practices and meets. It truly takes a village to not only make these events run smoothly but also safely. During practices and meets, the coaching staff is very focused on what is happening in the water. Therefore, we appreciate your help in keeping an eye out for things happening on the pool deck. Parents, we ask that you help by just keeping observant eyes to be able to readily assist our swimmers and each other. Please report anything that seems unsafe or out of the ordinary to the Lancer Ladies or any Board Member. Thank you!
Disqualifications: DQs occur when swimmers did not properly follow all the rules of the strokes they were swimming. They are quite common at the beginning of the season and as swimmers are learning new strokes. If a swimmer is DQed, their time they received for the race does not officially count. At the end of the meets, I receive information about all our team DQs for our coaching staff to review. I try my best to then touch base with swimmers during the next few days at practice to let them know what the mistake was and we will work with them to fix it. We did have some DQs this past weekend, so I will be sure to follow up with those swimmers this week.
Tuesday Committment Deadline for Saturday's HOME Meet: Please mark your swimmer(s) as attending/not attending by Tuesday morning. Overall, you all did a great job remembering to do this last week. It saves me a significant amount of time when committments are made on time, so THANK YOU.
We are swimming at our HOME pool this weekend as we host Victory Lakes. Let's be sure to extend gracious Lancer hospitality. More specific meet information will be shared later in the week.
Practice Schedule This Week: Afternoon practice continues on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Thursday is the last day of public school and there will be no practice as the Club will be open to host members to celebrate the start of summer.
Friday Morning we switch to regularly scheduled morning practice times. It is not a Fun Day this week. See the schedule below for Morning Practice times.
As a reminder, do not hesitate to reach out with questions to me or Lancer Ladies Molly & Olivia.
Just Keep Swimming,
Coach Lauren
